Reid to Sanders: 'Sometimes you just have to give up'
Harry Reid wants Bernie Sanders to “do a little mathing” and realize that it’s time for him to give up his bid for the White House.
"Sometimes you just have to give up," the Senate minority leader told the Associated Press on Wednesday about Sanders’ chances. "I've never been too good at math but I can figure that one out. I think he better do a little mathing.”
Former secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to hit the number of delegates required to secure the Democratic nomination on Tuesday when superdelegates (party leaders and elected officials who can choose whom they vote for) are included. But Sanders is holding out hope that the superdelegates will eventually lend their support proportionally rather than by personal choice.
Reid, who has endorsed Clinton, said that while Sanders has the right to continue his campaign through the Democratic National Convention in July, he shouldn’t.
“No, I don't think he should. I don't know what that's going to prove. Sometimes you just have to give up. I've lost before. The numbers aren't there,” Reid said.
