Battle over Bernie in Brown-Schultz household?

WASHINGTON — The Democratic presidential race has been a hot topic in Sen. Sherrod Brown’s household — and not because the Ohio Democrat is rumored to be on front-runner Hillary Clinton’s short list for vice president.

Brown and his wife, columnist Connie Schultz, are both big Clinton supporters. But they’re apparently divided over whether her rival, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, should quit the race or keep campaigning, despite Clinton’s virtually insurmountable delegate lead.

“This Democratic primary’s been very interesting in our house,” Schultz said in an interview. She declined to detail their discussions, but hinted she has privately told her husband she thinks Sanders should drop out and Brown has disagreed with that.

“He has a generous heart,” Schultz said of her husband, “and I can be a little more impatient with things.”

Asked if that means they’ve tussled over whether Sanders should quit, she said: “Yeah, and I’m not saying another word about it. I’m just telling you it’s been spirited.”

As for the reports that Clinton is considering Brown, among others, for the No. 2 slot on the ticket, Schultz said that’s not a flashpoint.

For one thing, she said, “we are very supportive of each other.” And they’re trying not to get too worked up about it until they know whether it’s actually true.

“We have no idea if he’s being vetted at all,” Schultz said. “None, zero.”
