John Lewis says he was 'beaten bloody' by police but 'never hated them'
Rep. John Lewis had some strong words following a violent week in America.
The Georgia Democrat and iconic figure from the civil rights movement took to Twitter to condemn the violence that had taken place throughout the nation in recent days, including the shooting deaths of African-American men by police officers in Louisiana and Minnesota and Thursday night's shootings in Dallas that left five police officers dead.
Lewis (who is a strong advocate of gun control and led the recent House sit-in) has been tweeting about the events all week and continued Friday with the news of the Dallas murders.
