Poll: Clinton ahead in Pennsylvania

Hillary Clinton was ahead of Donald Trump by 8 points among likely voters in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, according to a Monmouth University Poll released Tuesday. 

Clinton had the support of 48% of the state’s likely voters, while Trump had 40%. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson was backed by 6%, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein had 1% support.

Despite Trump’s recent attempts to bring in minority voters, Clinton had an overwhelming lead among black, Hispanic and Asian voters, 90%-5%. Trump was ahead among whites, 48%-39%.

Trump had an 18-point lead with white men, 50%-32%. But among white women, Clinton and Trump are almost evenly divided, with the Democratic nominee at 46% and the Republican nominee at 45%.

The Democratic Party is also leading in the state's closely watched Senate race. However, their edge is within the margin of error. Democratic challenger Katie McGinty leads GOP Sen. Pat Toomey, 45% to 41%.

The telephone poll of 402 likely voters was conducted Aug 26-29, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 points.
