Obama on Trump: He has 'outright wacky ideas'

President Obama shrugged off Donald Trump’s criticism of his leadership, calling the Republican nominee's ideas “outright wacky.”

During a press conference in Laos Thursday morning, the president was asked if he wanted to defend his legacy following Trump’s latest attacks Wednesday night. During the NBC News "Commander-In-Chief Forum," Trump said that U.S. generals were “reduced to rubble” under the Obama administration and that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been a better leader than Obama.

When asked if he cared to defend his legacy, Obama said of Trump: “I don’t think the guy’s qualified to be president of the United States. Every time he speaks, that opinion is confirmed."

“I think the most important thing for the public and the press is to just listen to what he says and follow up and ask questions about what appear to be contradictory, or uninformed, or outright wacky ideas," Obama said.

The president also said that this election cycle has made behavior that would usually be considered outrageous seem normal.
