Chelsea Clinton's reaction to Trump's hints? Pretty much just a shrug
Chelsea Clinton is not giving Donald Trump any credit for avoiding her dad’s infidelities during the debate Monday.
“My reaction to that is just what my reaction has been kind of every time Trump has gone after my mom or my family, which is that it’s a distraction from his inability to talk about what’s actually at stake in this election and to offer concrete, comprehensive proposals,” the Clintons' only child told Cosmopolitan in an interview published Tuesday.
“And candidly, I don’t remember a time in my life when my parents and my family weren’t being attacked, and so it just sort of seems to be in that tradition, unfortunately,” she continued.
During the debate Trump said he had planned “to say something extremely rough to Hillary, to her family, and I said to myself, 'I can't do it. I just can't do it. It's inappropriate. It's not nice.'"
Later, when speaking to reporters in the spin room following the debate, he elaborated on what exactly he had planned to bring up.
“I’m very happy that I was able to hold back on the indiscretions with respect to Bill Clinton,” Trump told a group of reporters according to Politico. “Because I have a lot of respect for Chelsea Clinton and I just didn’t want to say what I was going to say.”
During the interview with Cosmopolitan, Clinton also weighed in on her mom's pneumonia diagnosis earlier this month.
"I didn’t know she had pneumonia until she came over to my apartment. So I don’t think it was a conscious choice. I mean, she didn’t even tell me. I think she just expected she would power through it as she has always powered through everything," she said.
