Lindsey Graham ready to put epic Trump feud aside
Sen. Lindsey Graham is ready to let bygones be bygones in his long-running feud with President-elect Donald Trump.
Graham tweeted a congratulatory statement on Trump’s “stunning” win Wednesday morning and called on the nation to “pull together” in the wake of the divisive election.
“We now have a country to run,” Graham said. “President-elect Trump and the new Congress will face many challenges. We have wars to win, threats to be dealt with, and a stagnant economy which must be revived.”
Just hours before the statement, Graham announced on Twitter that he voted for another candidate. Graham’s lack of support prompted Trump advocate Omarosa Manigault to note that Graham would be placed on a special “list,” the Independent Journal Review reported.
Chances are he won’t be alone on that list.
While all feuds must come to an end, let’s take a trip down memory lane and look at a few Graham and Trump insults:
- In March, Graham was asked on The Daily Show if he'd prefer Cruz or Trump as the Republican nominee. Graham’s response: “It’s like being shot or being poisoned. What does it really matter?”
- In February, Trump called Graham a "disgrace," "nut job," and "one of the dumbest human beings," during a Fox News appearance.
Trump read Graham’s cellphone number out loud during a South Carolina rally in July 2015. “I found the number. I wrote the number down, I don’t know if it’s the right number, let’s try it,” Trump said before reading the number. It was.
Graham was a good sport about Trump giving his number out. One day later, he responded by publicly trashing his phone — it was a flip phone — for a video with IJReview.
