Dippin' Dots invited Sean Spicer to an ice cream social
Reporters aren't the only ones taking flack from new White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
Spicer has waged battle against Dippin' Dots — that ice cream of the future — in a handful of disparaging tweets dating back to 2010. Spicer's beef, it appears, is the company betrays its tagline.
"Dippin dots is NOT the ice cream of the future," the future presidential spokesman tweeted in April 2010. In September 2011, he issued this reminder: "I think I have said this before but Dippin Dots are not the ice cream of the future."
Later that year, he tweeted a Wall Street Journal story about the company filing for bankruptcy protection along with the words: "Ice Cream of the Past: Dippin' Dots Files for Bankruptcy."
His most recent missive came in September 2015: "If Dippin Dots was truly the ice cream of the future they would not have run out of vanilla cc @Nationals."
The company responded to Spicer on Monday, inviting him and the White House press corps to an ice cream social. The ice cream summit would both address Spicer's supply complaint — "We'll make sure there's plenty of all your favorite flavors" — but also would tap into one of Donald Trump's campaign proclamations.
"As you may or may not know, Dippin’ Dots are made in Kentucky by hundreds of hard working Americans in the heartland of our great country," the company invitation said. "As a company, we’re doing great. We’ve enjoyed double-digit growth in sales for the past three years. That means we’re creating jobs and opportunities. We hear that's on your agenda too."
Spicer recommended the company hold an event do something for soldiers and first responders.
