Kathleen Biden filed for divorce from Hunter in December

Kathleen Biden filed for divorce in December from her husband of more than 20 years, Hunter, according to Washington, D.C., Superior Court records.

On Dec. 9, Kathleen filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences between the parties concerning Defendant's conduct." The complaint said the couple separated in October 2015. Since that time, Hunter has provided support to Kathleen and the family "but has not provided sufficient support to meet the needs of the Plaintiff and the children," according to the complaint.

On Wednesday, Hunter, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, confirmed to the New York Post that he is having a romantic relationship with his brother's widow, Hallie.

Kathleen and Hunter shared a home in D.C., where Kathleen continues to reside with her youngest child, Maisy, who is 16. She is a full-time mother and homemaker, according to the complaint. The complaint asks for child support "significantly above the D.C. Child Support Guideline given the high income of Defendant, expenses of the children, and the family experience." The complaint specifically references support for the couple's two youngest children, Finnegan, 18, and Maisy. The Bidens' eldest, Naomi, is 23 years old.

"Plaintiff requires funds from Defendant to pay reasonable attorney's fees and expenses associated with this litigation," the complaint said.

The complaint also asks the court to award sole legal custody of Maisy to Kathleen "with reasonable visitation" by her father.

"There is no expectation of reasonable possibility of a reconciliation between the parties," according to the case filing.

The case is still pending.
