Throwback Thursday: NRSC retweets Elizabeth Warren's '#DoYourJob' statement
As Senate Republicans prepared Thursday to deploy the "nuclear option" to confirm Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, they decided it was as good a time as any for a throwback.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee, the campaign committee for the majority, found a September tweet by Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. In the tweet, she called on the GOP to "stop playing politics with judicial nominees and #DoYourJob." Warren was frustrated with Republicans for refusing to hold a hearing for Merrick Garland, then-President Obama's nominee to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant by the death of Antonin Scalia.
"This is disgraceful," she tweeted at the time.
Garland never did get his hearing, and Gorsuch is likely to fill that seat.
On Thursday, when Senate Democrats did not vote for cloture — a procedure that would end debate on Gorsuch's nomination and allow for a confirmation vote — the NRSC made its move with a simple "#tbt" to Warren's tweet.
Warren has openly opposed Gorsuch's nomination, saying that he does not belong on the Supreme Court because he will not defend "equal justice for every single one of us."
