That time Trump blamed the president for a government shutdown
President Trump on Tuesday said the country "needs a good shutdown" to fix Senate rules that require him to negotiate with Democrats.
Trump might do well to be cautious about welcoming a shutdown. It wasn't that long ago that Trump himself noted that people blamed another president for another federal government shutdown.
Back in October 2013, a week into a 16-day federal government shutdown, Trump – then merely a private citizen, business mogul and reality TV personality – tweeted: "My sense is that people are far angrier at the President than they are at Congress re the shutdown—an interesting turn!"
The last time the government shut down, Republican lawmakers tried to defund Obamacare, but their proposals were rejected by Democrats and then-President Obama, leading to a budget impasse.
