Join the clubs: Trump's golf irons being auctioned

Want to take a swing at owning a piece of Donald Trump history?

Boston-based RR Auction has put a set of the president's personal golf irons on the block. Bidding on the TaylorMade RAC TP ForgedIrons, valued at $30,000, began June 26 and will conclude July 12.

As of 2 p.m. Thursday, the top bid was $9,980.

The clubs were a gift to Trump more than a decade ago from TaylorMade CEO Mark King during an event at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., according to a description. They're being sold by Trump's former personal caddie, Andrew Lombardo, who described how he got them:

I waited for the right moment to ask Mr. Trump for the clubs. I personally asked Mr. Trump and he told me to ask the head pro (Mickie Gallagher), which I did and he said yes. I had the irons in my possession for about 11 or 12 years.

Lombardo, who caddied for Trump more than 100 times, said Trump used these irons exclusively for a two-and-a-half month period in 2004 or 2005 "while playing with and against a variety of celebrities, powerful business people and golf professionals at Bedminster," according to a news release.

The hosel of each clubhead is engraved "D. Trump."

Bobby Livingston, executive vice president at RR Auction, said the clubs are more than just presidential memorabilia.

They "represent the well-documented relationship between the sport of golf and the nation’s commander-in-chief," he said.
