How one Texas newsroom weathered Hurricane Harvey

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times has spent lots of time planning what the staff would do if a major hurricane hit their city, but Hurricane Harvey was more than they had planned for. “He was a beast, he continued to grow,” Caller-Times editor Tim Archuleta said of Harvey on this week’s episode of Paste BN’s Cup of Politics podcast.

Archuleta described what it was like covering a devastating storm as it literally unfolded around the second story of their newsroom, where they were hunkered down publishing content. Corpus Christi was just miles from the first landfall of Harvey, and Archuleta and his team used new tools — like a drone program — “to give people the first glimpse of what the state of their property was.”
