Bill Clinton calls Trump's DACA decision 'irresponsible' and 'cruel'

Former president Bill Clinton on Tuesday, condemned President Trump's decision to end the immigration program designed to protect undocumented people brought into the United States as children.

In a Facebook post, Clinton said the decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, or DACA, will "crush" the dreams of the people shielded by the program.

"It's wrong because it's bad policy that solves no pressing problem and raises new ones," he said. "It's wrong because it's irresponsible, passing the buck instead of offering sensible solutions for immigration reform. Most of all, it's wrong because it's cruel to send these young people to places many of them have never lived and do not know."

"For them this is home. The United States is their home."

Trump gave Congress a six-month window to pass legislation to preserve the program. Clinton called on lawmakers to get it done.

"Congress should act immediately to protect their status and pave the way for their future and America's future," he said.

Clinton is the second former president to criticize Trump's decision, joining Barack Obama.
