Obama's day: The King and Queen of Spain

President Obama welcomes royal visitors to the White House on Tuesday as he meets with King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain.

"Their visit reinforces the strong and enduring ties between the American and Spanish people," says the White House schedule.

The afternoon presidential meeting with the king is likely to include the economic challenges facing Spain and other nations in Europe.

First lady Michelle Obama "will also host Queen Letizia for tea and a tour of the White House Kitchen Garden," the schedule says.

Earlier in the day, Obama meets with college sports royalty: The University of Connecticut women's basketball team, which won its tenth national title earlier this year.

"This visit will continue the tradition begun by President Obama of honoring sports teams for their efforts to give back to their communities," the schedule says.

Obama also meets Tuesday with Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell and has lunch with Vice President Biden.
