Chris Brown sued for $50 million after alleged assault backstage on tour stop in Texas

Popular R&B singer Chris Brown, who just wrapped his "11:11" tour stops in Texas, is facing allegations of assault after an incident last Friday.

A lawsuit filed in Harris County names Brown, Yella Beezy, Hoodboss, Sinko Ceej and entertainment conglomerate Live Nation as defendants.

According to the complaint, Brown and the other members of his crew severely assaulted four men after Brown’s concert at Dickies Arena on July 19. The men who filed the lawsuit seek damages and a temporary restraining order. 

Here is what we know about the allegations in the lawsuit. 

Plaintiffs seek $50 million in damages for alleged assault after Chris Brown concert  

According to the lawsuit, the assault happened after the four men were invited backstage after Brown's concert. The court filing claims the attack was sudden and unprovoked. Brown and his group allegedly surrounded the plaintiffs, hurling chairs at them, kicking, stomping, and beating them. 

The plaintiffs, who are being represented by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, are seeking $50 million in compensatory and punitive damages. 

Chris Brown’s history of violent assault allegations

The singer has a lengthy history of violent assault allegations and legal troubles throughout his career. 

Here is a brief timeline of those allegations. 

  • February 8, 2009: Chris Brown physically assaults then-girlfriend Rihanna. Brown was charged with felony assault and making criminal threats on March 5. He pleaded guilty to a felony on June 22 of that year and accepted a plea deal of community labor, five years probation and domestic violence counseling.
  • June 14, 2012: Chris Brown is involved in a New York City nightclub brawl. Eight people were injured in a brawl in an N.Y.C. nightclub involving Brown, Drake, former San Antonio Spur Tony Parker and various members of their entourage. 
  • October-November 2012: Chris Brown breached the restraining order issued against him by attending a Halloween party while dressed as an Islamic terrorist, according to Billboard. Notably, Rihanna was also present at the same gathering, violating the terms of the restraining order imposed upon Brown following a prior assault incident.
  • January 2013: Chris Brown fights R&B singer Frank Ocean. According to TMZ, Brown and his entourage attacked Ocean over a parking space outside of a recording studio. According to an incident report obtained by TMZ, a member of Brown's entourage allegedly uttered homophobic slurs towards Ocean. The situation escalated when Brown reportedly resorted to physical violence, allegedly punching Ocean and threatening him with a firearm.
  • October 27, 2013: Chris Brown is arrested for felony assault. Brown was arrested for felony assault in Washington D.C. when he and his bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, were involved in a "physical altercation" with two men outside of the W Hotel.
  • April 2017: Chris Brown allegedly punches photographer in Tampa, Fl. 
  • June 2017: Chris Brown is ordered to stay away from ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran.
  • June 18, 2021: Chris Brown is accused of attacking a woman at his home.
  • January 27, 2022: Chris Brown is sued by a woman claiming he raped and drugged her in Miami.  As reported by People, a woman referred to as "Jane Doe" filed a $20 million lawsuit against Brown on January 27, 2022, accusing him of drugging and raping her on a yacht in Miami on December 30, 2020. The woman also recounted two additional encounters with Brown, one of which occurred in August 2021 when he allegedly became "irate" after she rejected his sexual advances.
