Spotify Wrapped, Apple Music Replay have finally dropped. See top artists, songs of 2024
It's a great day for music lovers — Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay have both dropped!
The two music streamers released their "year in review" features Wednesday. While some users may be pleased with their analysis, others are facing some hard truths or just outright disagree with it.
Whatever the revelation, music streamers can delight or despair as Spotify and Apple Music unveiled personalized data-driven reports with insights on whose music they listened to most and for how long.
When is Spotify Wrapped coming out 2024?
After much anticipation, Spotify Wrapped 2024 dropped Wednesday. Maybe you listened to 40 hours of heartbreak pop, or a whole week's worth of Taylor Swift. Perhaps you were in the top 1% of listeners for "Defying Gravity," beating out even the most ardent of theater geeks.
A capstone for the year, the release of Spotify Wrapped has become a cultural phenomenon. It offers a glimpse into "a point of reflection and a reminder of the year that's gone by," says Sulinna Ong, Spotify's Global Head of Editorial. Taylor Swift was the top global artist for the second year in a row.

What is Spotify Wrapped?
Spotify Wrapped is a year-end roundup of the songs, artists, genres, and subgenres you’ve streamed the most. Spotify has been doing personalized year in reviews for users since 2015, originally called "Year In Review."
Typically, Spotify Wrapped displays a user's top songs, artists and genres. Users are encouraged to share their Spotify Wrapped on social media. The streaming platform also creates a playlist with a user's 100 most streamed songs and shares fun facts like whether they're in the top 1% of Taylor Swift's listeners or what their music aura looks like.
User data is collected from Jan. 1 through the fall of that same year to produce a user's Spotify Wrapped.
The campaign also shares quirky data-driven facts about their listening habits, including what color their music aura is, what region their taste is similar to, and whether they're in the top 1% of Bad Bunny listeners.
Spotify will create a presentation for each user that shows their own personal listening trends. How many times did they listen to Sabrina Carpenter's album "Short n' Sweet?" Or did they have Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's rendition of "Defying Gravity" from the "Wicked" movie on repeat?
If you listened to Laufey for 30,000 minutes, your Spotify Wrapped will tell you and maybe ask if you're ok (just kidding, no one who listens to that much Laufey is ok.)
So, this one unique feature people go gaga over every year lets them know everything they need to know about their 2024 music preferences, including if they're one of Lady Gaga's top 0.05% of listeners.
When does Spotify Wrapped start tracking?
Spotify always resumes tracking listener data at the start of the new year. This means tracking for next year's Spotify Wrapped will begin in January 2025.
When does Spotify Wrapped stop tracking?
Because Spotify Wrapped is released ahead of Dec. 31, users may wonder when tracking of their listening habits concludes. Some seem to believe Spotify only tracks data between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31.
However, Spotify itself took to social media to dispel these rumors and reassure users that tracking would continue into November. On the last day of October, the audio streamer posted a Halloween-themed graphic of a jack-o'-lantern filled with candy and a message reading: "Spotify Wrapped doesn't stop counting on October 31st."
Aside from this reassurance, it remains unclear when Spotify does stop tracking listener data. All we know is that it's sometime between Nov. 1 and whenever Wrapped drops.
What's new in Spotify Wrapped 2024?
While some features of this year's report appear familiar, there are plenty of shiny new bells and whistles.
One such feature is "Your Music Evolution," a data-driven story of the music phases you passed through over the course of the year. With up to three distinct phases, the concept feels appropriate for 2024, in which Taylor Swift broke records with her "Eras Tour" and changed the lexicon as laypeople began coining their own "eras."
Like Apple Music's Replay feature, Spotify also added listening streaks to its year-end report, showing how many days straight you tuned into a certain artist. The share button also got a makeover, showing users whether the song or album they're sending is on their top-listened-to list.
How to get Apple Music Replay
As a collective, Apple Music listeners flocked to pop princesses and diss tracks this year, awarding Sabrina Carpenter and Kendrick Lamar top slots on the charts. Taylor Swift managed a spot on the top five most streamed songs with a 5-year-old tune, up-and-comers Benson Boone and Teddy Swims made a splash with their love-drenched ballads, and country music's rising star Shaboozey earned a seat at the Replay table.
This year, iPhone users with iOS 18.1 or later can access the Replay experience directly from the music app via the Home, New, and Search tabs. Others will still need to go to replay.music.apple.com on either mobile or desktop.

What's new in Apple Music Replay 2024?
This year, the streaming giant also launched a Replay exclusively for artists, so music-makers can have access to insights like which of their songs was discovered most via Shazam and which city houses most of their listeners.
Aside from the Replay for Artists feature, this year's reports also include an expanded "Top Listeners" list; users previously could only see if they were in the top 100 listeners for a certain musical act. This year also includes Top 500 or Top 1000 lists for both artists and genres.
Apple Music also added "streaks," a feature that reveals the longest number of consecutive days a user has played from Apple Music. Streaks also extend to artists if a user had an artist as their No. 1 for multiple months in a row.
Date of first play, another feature offered this year, will show users when they first discovered the song, artist or album that defined their year in listening.
Apple Music: Beyond the year
If you want to look even further back in time, Apple Music offers an archive of a user's Replay playlists so you can rediscover your most-loved songs from years past.
Beyond the personalized playlists, though, Apple Music users as a collective set larger trends for 2024. More women reached the year-end global songs chart than ever, the streamer announced in a release, and many of the top slots went to artists who had never made the year-end charts.
