Ready for fall weather? Cool temperatures forecast for weekend as cold front moves east
Are you ready for fall weather?
Temperatures for wide swaths of the Midwest and eastern United States will really start to feel like fall, dipping Friday and into the weekend as a large cold front moves east, according to a forecast from the National Weather Service.
Parts of the northern and central Plains are under freeze warnings and watches overnight Friday, and temperatures there and in the Upper Mississippi Valley will be 10-15 degrees below average.
On Friday, high temperatures are expected drop into the high 40s and low 50s in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Temperatures will be in the high 50s in Michigan, upper 60s in Indiana and Illinois and upper 60s to low 70s in Ohio.
Saturday will bring cooler temperatures into the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. Highs in the 50s or low 60s are expected in states as south as Tennessee and North Carolina. Highs in the 40s will be felt in parts of northern states like Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
By Saturday evening, a cold front from the lower Great Lakes to the central Gulf Coast will slowly move eastward towards the Atlantic Ocean.
The cooling temperatures may also bring changes in autumnal leaf colors, with more reds, oranges and yellow leaves visible.
Rain forecast
Rain is expected from the lower Great Lakes to the central Gulf Coast on Friday, thanks to moisture from the western Gulf of Mexico. By Saturday, the rain will have moved eastward with the cold front, over parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
