Northern Plains sees snow in Friday forecast, with next system to hit Rockies, Texas
More rounds of heavy snow will hit the northern U.S. Thursday night through Friday morning, forecasters say.
The National Weather Service expects temperatures to be 20-30 degrees below normal in the Northern Plains and said snow-covered or icy roads could make travel difficult through the weekend. The area from Montana into the Northern Plains should prepare for temperatures in the single digits to the teens with wind chills occasionally dipping below zero.
Snowfall has spread across eastern Montana, into the Dakotas and the northwestern portions of Minnesota, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Scott Homan.
"Moderate snowfall rates, sometimes heavy within that within that band. [It will} be a bit windy, so we could see some blowing snow in some of the colder areas," Homan told Paste BN.

Next snowstorm system forecast to hit Rockies
The conditions at the Northern Plains this week marked the first significant snowstorm of the season. The next will hit farther south toward the Rocky Mountains, Homan said.
Cold air will impact Colorado, southeastern Wisconsin and southern Minnesota, Homan added. High elevation southwest of Denver will see the heaviest snowfall up to 12 to 18 inches Friday night to Sunday.
Icy conditions to hit parts of Texas and Kanas
The other side of the storm will bring icy conditions to central Kansas and back into northern Texas by Saturday evening to Sunday morning.
"Watch for slippery travel and I think the elevated services and those areas are most susceptible to the slippery conditions," Homan said.
