Aden Basgall was stuck in his car during an EF2 tornado that tore through Grinnell, Kansas.

An estimated 21 tornadoes were reported in Kansas on May 18, damaging homes in Grinnell along Interstate 70. One man, Aden Basgall, was in his car when one of the twisters hit, at which point he said all he could do was "buckle up and hope for the best."

Basgall took video of the storm raging just outside his small sedan, showing heavy winds and rain whipping debris through the air and into fast-moving flood waters below.

Goodbye, Grinnell," Basgall says in the clip. Later when it's clear he'll survive, he says: "We just got saved by God!"

The storm, determined by meteorologists to be a category EF2 with winds of 135 mph, damaged Basgall's car but did not injure him. All told, the storms are believed to have caused up to $11 million in damages so far across impacted states, according to AccuWeather.

More severe weather coming

As communities scramble to clean up after more than 80 tornadoes ripped through a handful of states over the weekend, forecasters have warned that the severe weather isn't over.

Severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of at least a dozen states through mid-week, according to the Weather Prediction Center. These include Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia.

A larger swath of the Eastern United States could also see rainfall and less severe thunderstorms. Moving into Memorial Day weekend, storms could move into more Southeastern states, according to AccuWeather.
