Pope learns a tasty secret of joy from a tiny grandma
While urging young people to honor their grandparents Friday, Pope Francis told the story of a "tiny granny" he met who told him her secret to a joyful life: homemade ravioli.
The pontiff told a Catholic youth organization that he recently met a 92-year-old woman "with shining eyes" during one of his general audiences.
Francis recalled saying, "Tell me your recipe" for joy, the Associated Press reported. She replied: "I eat ravioli," then added: "I make them."
The pope called on young people to honor their grandparents, saying learning about what they have lived through and seen can surprise the younger generation, Catholic News Service reported.
Asked if he sees signs of hope and joy in the Catholic Church, Francis said: "Seeing young people like you who believe in Jesus present in the Eucharist, who believe that love is stronger than hatred and peace is stronger than war" is one sure sign of hope. "This gives me joy," he added, according to Catholic News Service.
