Brussels metro station reopens one month after attacks
The metro station in Brussels were 16 people were killed in a terror attack that also targeted the city’s airport last month reopened Monday.
A suicide bomber struck the Maelbeek station during rush hour on March 22, soon after 16 people were killed in bombings as Brussels airport. Hundreds more people were injured in the attacks.
Authorities set up a memorial wall at the entrance to the metro station where people can leave tributes.
Security remains high across the system, which is now fully operating for the first time since the attacks.
Metro user Goolon Luolovic, 42, told the Associated Press that “life must go on. The madness of men is what it is but peace must win over.”
Khalid El-Bakraoui, 27, blew himself up at Maelbeek station and his brother Ibrahim, 29, was one of two bombers who died in the attacks at Brussels Airport. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
