Stunning video shows 41 skydivers set British record for largest sequential formation

Stunning video captured the moment when a team of 41 skydivers successfully completed the largest ever sequential formation dive in the United Kingdom.

Free-falling at 120 mph, the skydivers jumped on July 12 from three separate aircraft from 15,000 feet above the ground of Nottingham. While airborne, the team combined to create two consecutive shapes in the sky — the largest number of Brits ever to do so, according to Skydive Langar, the company that operates the airfield and training center where the stunt took place.

But the team didn't stop there.

Two jumps later, the team — composed of British national champions, world champions, world record holders, coaches and skydive instructors —broke their own record by completing three consecutive formations.

Formation skydiving is one of the first skills a novice skydiver learns while earning their license, according to Skydive Langar. The practice involves free-falling while taking ahold of other skydivers to create shapes, all while falling at speeds of around 120 mph for at least 60 seconds.

The record-setting stunt was overseen by British Skydiving, the national body for sport parachuting in the U.K.

"We’re very proud to be part of this new record and pushing the discipline of formation skydiving forward," Skydive Langar said in a statement. "Thank you to everyone involved and who made it happen."
