A small asteroid entered Earth's atmosphere and disintegrated as it flew through the skies above eastern Germany.

Videos posted to social media throughout the day showed the asteroid's descent over Europe. NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office posted a heads up on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Saturday evening.

"Heads Up: A tiny asteroid will disintegrate as a harmless fireball west of Berlin near Nennhausen shortly at 1:32 a.m. CET. Overseers will see it if it's clear!" the post read.

Denis Vida, a Ph.D. associate in meteor physics at Western University in Canada, said on X the asteroid measured about one meter end-to-end and probably dropped some meteorites on the ground.

According to EarthSky, as astronomy website run by scientists and experts in the field, the asteroid posed no danger to the people on the ground.

The asteroid was discovered by Hungarian researcher and "asteroid hunter" Krisztián Sárneczky shortly before impact, according to EarthSky, which also says this is only the eighth asteroid detected before impact.
