Talking Tech: A new look is coming to your Facebook feed

Happy Thursday, Talking Tech readers! It's Brett Molina trying to avoid the summer heat while presenting your weekly dose of tech headlines.

Who's ready for a big Facebook update? I still remember the early days when a change to Facebook feeds drew ire from its users for maybe a week or two before most just fell in line and adapted.

This latest change rolling out to all Facebook users over the next week will attempt to make the social network look more like TikTok, a growing competitor for the tech giant.

The big change? Your Home tab is going to look different. Instead of seeing the updates from friends and pages you follow, it will show short-form videos called Reels and Stories that Facebook thinks you'll like (which pretty much sounds like what TikTok does).

If you want to find those updates from your friends, you'll tap the Feeds tab along the bottom of your smartphone app.

Of course, this is not the first time Facebook has borrowed a feature from TikTok to incorporate into its network. How do you think Reels became a thing?

What else happened in tech?

Netflix is losing lots of subscribers.  What does that mean for those who are left?

Amazon sues over fake reviews. The online retailer claims more than 10,000 Facebook groups coordinated fake reviews for money or free products.

For all my 20-sided dice lovers. There's a new Dungeons & Dragons book, and it's the first written entirely by people of color.

Good news! Robocalls are down. Now for the bad news: text scams, also known as robotexts, are way up.

Amazon Prime health care? Amazon is buying primary care group One Medical for $3.9 billion.

Thursday tech tip

Yes, we know your smartphone can keep you awake if you're busy scrolling through social media or playing your favorite games. But they really can help you sleep, too. Try out these apps if you struggle to catch some Z's.

One more thing ...

We're trying something new this week, in honor of the phrase Apple co-founder Steve Jobs used to proclaim during the announcement of the company's various products.

This week, I'm focused on summer and hot dogs, which feels like the annual food of summer. Here's what they are really made of, not that it matters to me because I will never stop eating them.
