It's Your Week: Warnock wins, Sinema throws a curve ball. How our team covers politics
When Sen. Raphael Warnock took the W in Georgia's run-off this week, Democrats felt they had some breathing room with a 51-49 majority in the Senate. But then Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announced Friday she was leaving the party and registering as an independent.
Just when you think it's over, it's not.

Midterms are done, but we aren't
From Deputy managing editor for politics, Luciana Lopez:
A month after Election Day, the midterm elections are finally over. With Sen. Raphael Warnock’s win in the Georgia run-off this week, we finally know what the incoming Senate will look like. That’s hardly the last bit of politics news for the year, though.
With Republicans set to take the House in January, expect Democrats in Congress to try to push through whatever they can before Jan. 3, when the next Congress is sworn in. We’re also expecting President Joe Biden to announce his decision on whether he will or won’t run for president again in the near term.
That’s a huge decision, which could leave the door open for a new generation of leadership in the Democratic Party. It could also leave young and hungry politicians like Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg still waiting their turn, with varying degrees of patience.
On the Republican side, lawmakers are especially eager to take over the House, which will significantly shift priorities there from the first half of Biden’s term. Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California is likely to be the next speaker after Nancy Pelosi gives up the gavel; investigations of Jan. 6 will likely be out, and investigations of the president’s son Hunter will be in.
Through it all, the Paste BN politics team will be here to keep you updated.
