Talking Tech: Who's ready for a new MacBook?
Happy Thursday, Talking Tech readers! It's Brett Molina back with your weekly review of what's happening in tech.
It's only January, but we already have our first new Apple products of 2023. On Tuesday, the tech giant unveiled its latest MacBook Pros (or is it MacBooks Pro?).
The launch is a big deal because it continues Apple's push toward equipping all its Macs with its own processing chips. The laptops are much faster than models that run on chips made by Intel, Apple says.
If you want one of these laptops, though, prepare to pay up. They start at $1,999, and depending on how many extras you want, you could end up forking over many thousands of dollars.
What else happened in tech?
Trump back on Facebook? The former president has petitioned Meta to lift bans on his Facebook and Instagram accounts.
More layoffs at Amazon. Tech giant cutting more than 18,000 employees. What does tech's latest layoff spree say about the economy?
Ready for an electric Corvette? It starts at $104,295 for the 1LZ coupe and $111,295 for the hard-top convertible.
Thursday tech tip
There's nothing worse than the loss of a loved one. You want to find any way to preserve their presence, including holding on to photos or keeping old voicemails so you can still hear their voice. To keep your smartphone from accidentally deleting those valuable messages, follow these steps to hang on to them for good.
One more thing
As a one-time soda connoisseur, the news of Pepsi retiring Sierra Mist for Starry perked my interest. It's the soft drink maker's latest attempt at topping Sprite, currently the G.O.A.T. of lemon-lime sodas. But if we're talking best sodas ever, nothing tops root beer.
Until next week. Thanks for reading.
