Talking Tech: Could TikTok face a ban in the US?

And just like that, it's Thursday. It's Talking Tech time. Brett Molina here to welcome back spring with a new batch of tech headlines.

By the time you read this, the CEO of TikTok will have faced grilling from US lawmakers over the app's Chinese ownership.

Unless you have been living completely off the grid, then you know about TikTok. If you don't use it, your kids or grandkids might. It's arguably one of the most influential apps available right now.

However, because TikTok is owned by Chinese company Bytedance, US lawmakers have raised fears the app could hand over data to China's government and threaten national security.

This leads us to Thursday, where TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew testifies before Congress on how the app is protecting users.

One more thing

It's a big birthday for one of the most important pieces of technology for music lovers: the compact disc. Yes, the CD is 40 years old. Remember the books of CDs you'd keep in your car so your music was with you everywhere? (Personal note: huge fan of the sun visor holder to get easy CD access). Definitely not as seamless as having all your music on a smartphone, but I miss those times. I do not, however, miss songs that skipped.
