The Daily Money: Hispanic homeownership is growing; the best IRS numbers to call
Happy Wednesday! This is Amritpal Kaur Sandhu-Longoria with The Daily Money headlines.
Experts predict that by 2040, 70% of net new homeowners will be Hispanic. That's because 17.9 million people, about one-third of the nation's Hispanic population, is currently younger than 18 compared to 22% of the overall population, and by 2040 they will reach the age when people typically think about becoming homeowners, according to the Urban Institute.
Hispanics are the only demographic to see eight years of steady homeownership growth, according to U.S. Census data. In 2022, Hispanic Americans made up 49% of the homeownership rates, compared to 74% of white Americans and 46% of Black Americans.
Need to reach a real person at the IRS? We've got the phone numbers
With the tax deadline creeping up, you may find yourself needing to speak to a real person at the IRS. This year, callers may have better luck getting a hold of someone, largely because the IRS has hired more people. You can find a list of phone numbers here.
In past years, the struggle to reach a live person was real — only 13% of callers got hold of an IRS employee in 2022, and only 11% in 2021, according to the National Taxpayer Advocate's report to Congress.
In addition to numbers you can call for more specific issues, the IRS has a live chat service for general questions only.
