Talking Tech: A new step toward ditching our passwords

Welcome to another Thursday, which means it's time for more Talking Tech. Here's a peek at this week's top tech headlines.

Step by step, inch by inch, we move closer (hopefully) to ditching passwords for good. They're a necessary evil. They help keep all our personal accounts protected. But with the number of online accounts many of us manage, trying to remember every password is a pain.

It's no wonder passwords like "123456" are still used, and we practice poor online hygiene by reusing passwords on multiple accounts.

Recently, Google announced plans to support passkeys for apps, using information such as face scans, fingerprints or a screen lock PIN to access your apps. Google claims the passkeys are more secure and resistant to online attacks.

What else happened in tech?

Changes at Intel. Company announces layoffs with largest quarterly loss ever.

It's not just Twitter with checkmarks. Google's Gmail is adding checkmarks to boost security.

YouTube's top channels. These are the YouTubers with the most subscribers.

Thursday tech tip

One more thing

It's baseball season, plus summer is approaching, which means it's time for the hot dog to reign. But would you spend $29 on one? A restaurant in New York is offering such a frankfurter, measuring nine inches long and weighing eight ounces. It's served on a potato bun with brisket chili and kimchi as toppings. But for $29?? That's roughly 19 Costco hot dogs (with a drink)!

Thanks for reading! Until next Thursday.
