Ukraine support on the line

A group of Senate Republicans are threatening to withhold their support for aid to Ukraine if Democrats don’t accept sweeping changes to border policies in return.

Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and James Lankford, R-Okla., released a proposal that would make it harder for migrants to enter the country by seeking humanitarian asylum. The Republicans plan to demand these changes in exchange for their support for President Joe Biden's $61.4 billion request for aid to Ukraine as the war-torn nation continues to fight Russia's invasion.

“If I were (Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer), I would not underestimate the level of resistance that he will run into if the issue of the border isn’t addressed,” Senate Republican Whip John Thune of South Dakota said Monday night.
