What can a Tennessee city do about the war?
Through chants and shouts, Knoxville, Tenn., residents have made it clear where they stand on whether the city's government should declare its support of a cease-fire in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
Multiple downtown rallies, student demonstrations at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a couple city council meetings at fever pitch revealed the pain of the war that connects Israel, the Gaza Strip and Knoxville.

Some residents say Knoxville should join a growing list of American cities that have passed cease-fire resolutions, including Atlanta; Oakland, Calif.; Providence, R.I.; and Detroit. But a resolution for cease-fire failed in Knoxville City Council late last month. Now, residents debate what should come of this activism some 6,000 miles away from the war.
