'A lot still needs to change'
University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill has resigned after receiving criticism over her Capitol Hill testimony last week about antisemitism.
Critics said the address in Washington by Magill and presidents of Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to the Republican-led House Committee on Education and the Workforce failed to adequately denounce and prevent incidents of intimidation and hate speech at their respective institutions. The lawmakers inquiry into the rise of antisemitism comes as campuses have become hotbeds for protests, anti-Jewish graffiti and harassment of students.
While Magill's departure signals a shift for Penn, Junior Akiva Berkowitz said that students desire further action.
"There's a realization that one step is over," she said outside the campus' Jewish organization Hillel. "But the process is not, and I don't want people to think this is the end. Many things still need to happen. A lot still needs to change."
