Most Americans worked during vacations and holidays in 2023

Happy Thursday, Daily Money readers! It's Paul Davidson bringing you the latest news.

You may be reading this on a Caribbean island or at a cabin in the Berkshires, blissfully detached from the mundane demands of the office.

But there’s a good chance you’re combining some holiday downtime at home or elsewhere with a little work.

Sixty-eight percent of employees acknowledge they work during vacations and holidays, according to a recent survey of 2,300 workers in the U.S. and Canada by ELVTR, an online learning platform.

And almost half of non-retail employees expected to work during the current winter holidays, according to a separate survey by CalendarLabs. Twenty-four percent planned to work Christmas Eve, 12% on Christmas Day and 19% on New Year’s Day.

Much of the holiday work will occur at home, with remote employees far more likely than their colleagues to have toiled some on Christmas.

Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance lifts Kansas City economy

As if pop superstar Taylor Swift wasn’t already a nicely humming engine for Kansas City’s economy (along with dozens of others across the U.S.).

Now, Swift’s budding romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is providing another booster shot to the normally tranquil Midwest city.

The city is buzzing about all the places the couple are hanging out, such as Prime Social, the restaurant where Swelce – the Internet’s moniker for the duo – dined following Swift’s first TV appearance during a Chiefs game. Since then, the trendy spot has received 4,900% more Google searches.
