An Israeli judge is drawing ire in South Bend, Indiana.
Israel Supreme Court Justice Alex Stein is expected to speak with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett at the University of Notre Dame. The event on Tuesday "will offer valuable and insightful perspectives to our students and the entire law school community,” Notre Dame law school leadership said.
But the invitation of a high-ranking Israeli official to a U.S. college campus amid ongoing bombings of Israel was met with backlash from local activists. Stein, who has led Israel's highest court since 2018, is an "architect of apartheid," according to advocates who plan to protest in South Bend ahead of the talk. The reaction by the groups, which represent Palestinians, Jews and Black community members, highlights how a foreign conflict has continued to divide Americans.
