A Colorado city weighs a cease-fire call

Shehab Elhaddad is fighting for a cease-fire in Gaza, but he's losing confidence.

As president of the Islamic Center of Fort Collins, Colorado, Elhaddad felt a sense of betrayal and loss after none of the city's six Council members acted to take up a resolution for a cease-fire on Tuesday.

Elhaddad joined hundreds of other residents at Tuesday's Council meeting to either support or oppose the resolution. It was the second regular council meeting in a row where the topic dominated public comment. The ultimate failure of the measure disappointed him because he said it contained non-adversarial language and aimed to "just save human lives."

Despite the failed measure, the robust community attention to the resolution reflects ongoing questions of whether U.S. towns like Fort Collins should support a cease fire, or not, in a foreign country.
