These Michiganders will vote 'uncommitted'

Some Michigan voters will have their minds made up when they head to polls for Tuesday's presidential primary — but not for a specific candidate. A campaign launched weeks ahead of Michigan's election is calling on voters to withhold their support for President Joe Biden in the Democratic presidential primary and instead fill in the "uncommitted" bubble over his response to the war in Gaza.

The "uncommitted" campaign aims to put more political pressure on Biden to demand a cease-fire amid his continued support of Israel's offensive in Gaza. Although the president has become more vocal about the need to protect civilians in Gaza as the war continues, last week marked the third time the U.S. vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.

"The problem is, it's rhetoric and it's not action," said Joseph Geevarghese, executive director of Our Revolution, another group organizing on behalf of the uncommitted vote. "The rhetorical shift is not enough," Geevarghese said of Biden's response to the war so far.

Michigan's turmoil at the polls demonstrates Biden's fragile electoral prospects in a pivotal state if he doesn't change his administration's handling of the war.
