A castle-like building burns
Crowds watched a gothic-style building burn in the Black Sea port of Odesa, Ukraine, on Monday. Pictures posted online showed smoke billowing from an ornate, castle-like building that is a landmark on the town's seafront.
The building, described by local media as a law academy, was hit by a Russian missile attack on Monday that killed two people and injured eight, regional governor Oleh Kiper said. Officials said children and a pregnant woman were among the injured, and civilian homes and infrastructure were damaged.
Ukrainian navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk, in a posting on a military Telegram channel, said the type of missile involved in the strike was difficult to intercept. The hit isn't the first time the port city has been hit since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began more than three years ago: Odesa has been a frequent target of Russian missile and drone attacks, particularly to its waterside infrastructure.
