All faiths weigh in

In a conflict driven between Muslim and Jewish factions, the steps a Christian group is taking toward a resolution reveal how the war has come to involve all faiths.

Southern Baptists gathering this month for their annual meeting will weigh in on a slew of hot-button topics, including the Israel-Hamas war.

Southern Baptist Convention delegates at the faith group's assembly in Indianapolis, Indiana, will tackle a resolution on what will constitute justice and peace in the conflict's aftermath.

This resolution includes statements condemning Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel and commitments to stand with the Jewish people and those suffering in the region. The church's measure would also oppose all forms of antisemitism and argues against efforts to call for Israel to stop its fight against Hamas.

While the religious group has no political sticking power, its resolution does go as far as to reject any calls for a ceasefire that do not also involve the immediate release of all hostages and calls for the international community to redouble efforts to support the nation of Israel.
