Keep the questions coming! Clarisa from Austin, Texas asks: “Why is Harris claiming the bipartisan senate border bill for Democrats? It’s a cruel bill, written by conservative lawmakers, that’s ineffective at best and cruel at worst.”

Across the board, immigration has become a growing concern among many United States voters, per recent Gallup polling. It’s an issue that Democrats are trying to walk a fine line on, including Harris, in an effort to quell voters’ immigration concerns. Promoting the bipartisan border security bill (more on that here), is part of that strategy. The bill would have expanded detention capacity and expanded the number of green-card-eligible visas every year for five years, while still making it harder for people to qualify for asylum
