The new Trump era begins: Congress certifies the 2024 presidential election
All it took was 30 minutes. Congress on Monday officially certified the 2024 presidential election results. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, presided over a joint Congress as the results from each state were read aloud. With 312 electoral votes, Republicans Donald Trump and JD Vance were named the winners of the election as president and vice president. Read more.

The quick certification process was a switch from four years ago. On Jan. 6, 2021, thousands of Trump’s supporters stormed the United States Capitol in an effort to stop the 2020 presidential election results from being certified.
