Trump’s feud with Harvard
How’s it going? It’s Rebecca Morin here. I wish I was in Texas later this month for this neat city-wide festival in San Antonio.
Donald Trump vs. Harvard University
It’s the reality star turned two-time president versus one of the top Ivy League schools. President Donald Trump’s administration announced on April 14 it's freezing $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts to Harvard University after the school rejected the president’s demands to implement a mask ban and eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. Before the Trump administration’s decision, attorneys for Harvard said in a letter the university "will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights." Why Trump is freezing federal funds to Harvard.
- The feud escalated Tuesday after Trump threatened to revoke Harvard University's tax-exempt status. In a social media post, Trump said the university should be taxed "as a Political Entity" if it continues to push what he described as "political, ideological, and terrorist inspired/supporting Sickness.'"
- Former President Barack Obama praised Harvard’s decision to resist Trump’s conditions for federal funding and called on other institutions to do the same.

Democrats plan El Salvador trip to push release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia
The pressure is on. Democratic lawmakers said they will visit El Salvador to push for the releae of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a wrongly deported father of three who is being held in the Central American country’s supermax prison. Trump met with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele at the White House on April 14, where Bukele said he did not have the power to release Abrego Garcia. The Trump administration was ordered by the Supreme Court to facilitate the return of Abrego Garcia, a metal worker who lived in Maryland and was allowed to remain in the country by a federal judge's protective order after entering the U.S. illegally in 2011. More on Democrats' plans.
- Trump on Monday suggested his administration could send U.S. citizens who commit violent crimes to El Salvador, telling Bukele that the "homegrowns are next" and urging him to build more prisons to house them.
JD Vance drops Ohio State's national championship trophy
Good thing he’s not Ohio State’s quarterback. Vice President JD Vance fumbled the college football National Championship Trophy as he tried to hoist it up during a White House celebration for the Buckeyes on Monday. As the White House band played Queen's "We are the Champions,” the base of the 35-pound trophy broke off as Vance held it up with help from star Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson. Watch what happened at the event.
