Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’

President Donald Trump had some choice words for hardline Republicans on Capitol Hill. The president made his way down Pennsylvania Ave. to the Capitol Hill on Tuesday to push GOP lawmakers to rally behind what he's called his "big, beautiful bill" to carry out his domestic agenda. "Don't f---- around with Medicaid," Trump told members of the far-right House Freedom Caucus in a private meeting with lawmakers. The House Freedom Caucus have pushed deep cuts to Medicaid to support the legislation. Here’s what happened in Trump’s meeting with lawmakers.

  • Trump’s visit to this Hill comes as the House is about to pass a massive package that will have big changes to Medicaid, SNAP food benefits and income taxes that are in line with Trump’s agenda. With no Democrats expected to support the proposal, House Republicans can lose only three GOP votes to pass it. See what’s in the bill.
  • The bill is also expected to include a tax plan that would make the 2017 tax cuts from Trump’s first term permanent, increase the child tax credit to $2,500 through 2028 and $2,000 in subsequent years, and introduce other tax cuts including no taxes on tips or overtime wages. Analyses from nonpartisan organizations suggest top earners stand to gain the most from these tax cuts, with some of the lowest earners losing income when accounting for spending cuts to programs like Medicaid.
  • Trump also gave one Republican lawmaker – Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky – the cold shoulder on Tuesday. Massie, a staunch fiscal conservative, has criticized the bill, suggesting on X that it would reinforce “Biden levels of spending” and cause “bigger deficits.” Trump called Massie “a grandstander.”

The book, "Original Sin" by Jake Tapper of CNN and Alex Thompson of Axios, was published today and revealed a trove of revelations about how Biden's inner circle of White House aides limited the hours of the day that he worked, the length of speeches he gave and even the access members of his Cabinet had with him.

Trump signs 'revenge porn' ban with Melania Trump at his side

First Lady Melania Trump took the black marker from her husband, President Donald Trump, to sign her name on legislation that banned the publication of sexually explicit images and videos without a person’s consent – legislation she advocated for two months ago. Trump signed the bipartisan "Take it Down Act” on Monday, making it law of the land, during a ceremony at the White House’s Rose Garden. The first lady called the legislation a “national victory.”
