It's trial eve. How did Diddy get here?
After more than six months in jail, Sean "Diddy" Combs is now staring down the eve of his criminal trial.
The music and business mogul – who once boasted recognition from the biggest organizations in music and fashion, multiple Billboard chart-toppers, the key to New York City and producer credits for some of hip-hop's biggest musicians – has called Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center home since he was arrested Sept. 16. Starting Monday, he will be making daily appearances in Manhattan federal court and attempting to clear his name of the picture prosecutors have painted of him as the head of a criminal organization for 20 years.
So how did Combs go from wearing a glamorous bespoke white suit on the steps of the Met Gala a few years back to now being allocated 20 pieces of clothing he's permitted to wear at a courthouse just 5 miles away?
Paste BN's entertainment team has been publishing stories that should catch you up-to-speed on who Combs is — both pre- and post-arrest — what his accusers say happened at his famously lavish parties and why you won't be seeing photos and videos from the courtroom all over your social media, à la Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard and Terry Sanderson vs. Gwyneth Paltrow.
And we'll continue to do so as the trial unravels over an estimated eight-to-10 weeks. Keep a look out for this newsletter as I highlight our coverage that spans both present-day Diddy and years of context to keep in mind while he's fighting criminal charges. In the meantime, scroll on for stories that provide context for Combs' trial.
