Fourth and Monday: The biggest news you need to know from Week 1 in the NFL
Like a New York Jets player running into his own teammate, the NFL is back.
Week 1 has traditionally been wildly unpredictable, and this year's version didn't disappoint. The Jacksonville Jaguars won a game on the road, the Cincinnati Bengals and quarterback Andy Dalton looked wretched in a shutout loss to the Ravens and the Los Angeles Rams somehow put up 46 points on the hapless Indianapolis Colts.
And don't forget: the defending-champion New England Patriots were pummeled in historic fashion by the Kansas City Chiefs last Thursday in the official season opener.
If you need to ground yourself, just take a breath and know that the Houston Texans appear to have a quarterback controversy yet again and the Cleveland Browns still are finding ways to lose.
As for the two marquee games on Sunday, both the Seattle Seahawks-Green Bay Packers clash and New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys meeting were short on fireworks - but there could be more officiating controversy since Seahawks coach Pete Carroll thought the refs missed a crucial call in a gut-wrenching loss. Meanwhile, Ezekiel Elliott had 104 rushing yards in a Cowboys win that was high on intrigue after the running back won a preliminary injunction last week on a six-game suspension.

THE RUNDOWN
Falcons 23, Bears 17: How's this for a Super Bowl hangover? Atlanta needed a fourth-and-goal stand to stave off Chicago's massive upset bid.
Ravens 20, Bengals 0: Andy Dalton threw four interceptions, lost a fumble and had a hat thrown at him by a fan. Hope you didn't start him on your fantasy team this week.
Jaguars 29, Texans 7: Savage vs. Watson will be the focus, but hard to get invested in the QB battle when Houston's offensive line gives up 10 sacks.
Steelers 21, Browns 18: Some things never change. Though the Browns put up a respectable fight, Big Ben improved to 21-2 in his career against Cleveland.
Lions 35, Cardinals 23: Rookie WR Kenny Golladay had two touchdowns in his debut. Scoop him up in your fantasy league and thank us later.
Eagles 30, Redskins 17: Kirk Cousins wants a big contract, but the performance in Sunday's loss won't do him any favors at the bargaining table.
Raiders 26, Titans 16: Marshawn Lynch was stellar in his Raiders debut. That was expected. What wasn't was that the Raiders had to rely on a kicker not named Sebastian Janikowski to pull out the win.
Bills 21, Jets 12: Say it with us now ... your AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills. Enjoy the moment, #billsmafia.
Rams 46, Colts 9: Raise your hand if you picked the Rams to score the most points in Week 1. L.A. is the first team in NFL history to record two pick-sixes and a safety in a season opener. Not the way to get into the record books, Scott Tolzien.
Panthers 23, 49ers 3: Keep an eye on Cam Newton, who looked out of sorts with a number of errant passes after offseason shoulder surgery.
Packers 17, Seahawks 9: In this showdown of playoff stalwarts, one big play made the difference and could have ramifications that go as deep as January.
Cowboys 19, Giants 3: It wasn't aesthetically pleasing football, but the Cowboys won't care. They beat the team that dealt them two of their three losses last season.
Chiefs 42, Patriots 27 (Thursday): So ... about those predictions of 16-0. We're calling a mulligan on ours (though we stand by everything else).
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT
- Texans defensive end J.J. Watt described his finger injury by saying, "'Just busted the bone through the skin." Our response: "AHHH!"
- Everything went wrong for the Colts, and coach Chuck Pagano added to the shame spiral by mentioning the wrong opponent in his postgame press conference.
- The Rams might have clobbered the Colts, but even they weren't spared from some ridicule from fans. There were a lot of empty seats disguised as Rams fans at the Coliseum.
- Eli Manning getting sacked during introductions for his offensive line was probably a pretty good indication of how the Giants' night was going to go.
- The Browns' first possession went very poorly and, ultimately, cost them the game.
INJURY WATCH
- Jaguars WR Allen Robinson suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury. This is a tough break for both Jacksonville, which loses its leading receiver, and Robinson, who is in the final year of his contract.
- Cardinals RB David Johnson suffered a wrist injury. He will undergo an MRI on Monday.
- Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt is feared to have a torn biceps, and will have an MRI on Monday.
- Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick suffered a fractured hand.
- Bears WR Kevin White left Sunday's game with what is feared to be a season-ending shoulder injury.
And that's not all.
