4th & Monday: Temper tantrums, unique celebrations and two crazy kicks highlight Week 5
What is up with the Eagles?
The defending champions are teetering on infamy. By falling to 2-3, the Eagles are the first reigning Super Bowl winner to begin 2-3 since the 2006 Steelers. Those Steelers missed the playoffs. That's company Philly would like to avoid, and can do so starting Thursday night against the Giants.
While the Chiefs and Rams each remained unbeaten, football fans were reminded on Thursday night that the Patriots are still the team to beat.
It was also a milestone day for the four quarterbacks selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. Baker Mayfield won his first home start. Josh Rosen helped deliver the first win of the season for the Cardinals. Sam Darnold threw three touchdown passes as the Jets routed the Broncos and Josh Allen had a nifty rushing touchdown as the Bills upset the Titans.
Here's 32 things we learned in Week 5 before we break down all the moments that you need to see from this week's action:
Quick hits: Must-see moments from Sunday
- Giants WR throws epic temper tantrum: Sterling Shepard showed his frustrations during Sunday's loss to the Panthers by pummeling the bench and a trash can. Shepard was caught by Fox's cameras throwing a temper tantrum that rivaled Beckham's infamous encounter with a kicking net in 2016.
- OBJ can do it all: It wasn't all bad for the Giants on Sunday. Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. threw a touchdown pass to rookie running back Saquon Barkley. At 57 yards, the connection was the longest of the Giants' season so far.
- Steelers WR pretends to give birth to football: JuJu Smith-Schuster has been laboring to find the end zone this season, but he delivered on Sunday against Atlanta.
- Browns win on knuckleball kick: Rookie kicker Greg Joseph connected on a 37-yard field goal at the end of overtime to lift the Browns to victory over the Ravens. The kick wasn't a thing of beauty, but Browns fans will take it.
- Bortles throws hilarious interception: Blake Bortles can be an adventure at quarterback, and on Sunday he threw an interception that ricocheted off the helmet of one of his linemen.
- Reid resumes protest: Eric Reid, the Panthers newly signed safety, picked up where he left off from his time in San Francisco when it comes to protests during the anthem. Former NFL QB Colin Kaepernick tweeted his support of Reid, who called Sunday's win bittersweet since Kaepernick is still not on an NFL team.
- Gano's heroics inspire song: Panthers kicker Graham Gano's 63-yard game-winning field goal made the team's Spanish announcer break into song.
- Lions receiver delivers vicious stiff-arm: It was an all-around bad day for the Packers, and Kenny Golladay's stiff-arm of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was among the more humbling moments for Green Bay.
- Your tax dollars at work: Vice President Mike Pence's visit to an Indianapolis Colts game last season was brief ... and expensive.

Key story lines from Week 5
- Chiefs flip the script: After weeks of relying on the heroics of hotshot quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his electrifying cast of offensive players, the Chiefs leaned heavily on their defense and emerged as convincing victors in their bout with the Jaguars.
- Repeating is no easy task: The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles are providing living proof of just how difficult it is to recreate last season's results. “We’ve got to look ourselves in the mirror and fix ourselves,” Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham said after Sunday's loss.
- Tomlin left fuming: The Steelers steamrolled the visiting Falcons, 41-17, but Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin was in a foul mood about two face mask penalties called against his team, saying, "Some of the other stuff, man, is a joke. We’ve got to get better as the National Football League."
- Normally reliable kicker has brutal game: In a 31-23 defeat in Detroit, Packers kicker Mason Crosby missed a career-high four field goals and an extra-point attempt. His misses left 13 points on the table for Green Bay, which fell to 2-2-1. Afterward, Crosby got philosophical, saying his misses were an "anomaly in life."
- Giants are angry: A last-second loss on a 63-yard field goal left the Giants frustrated and disheartened, wondering what they need to do to finally win a game. Well, the Giants have three days to figure it out before Thursday's game at home against the division rival Eagles.

Week 5 rundown
Texans 19, Cowboys 16 (OT): A spectacular play by DeAndre Hopkins prevented the Sunday night game from ending in a tie.
Rams 33, Seahawks 31: Playing without their top two receivers due to concussions, the Rams leaned heavily on Jared Goff and Todd Gurley to escape Seattle and improve to 5-0.
Cardinals 28, 49ers 18: Josh Rosen's 75-yard touchdown pass to fellow rookie Christian Kirk on the Cardinals' first offensive play of the game sparked the team's first win of the season.
Vikings 23, Eagles 21: The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles are living proof of how difficult it is to follow up on the previous season's success.
Chargers 26, Raiders 10: Philip Rivers had his 59th career 300-yard passing game, and his eighth against the Raiders.
Steelers 41, Falcons 17: The Steelers demolished the Falcons in their most complete performance of the season.
Bills 13, Titans 12: In an ugly contest between 2017 playoff teams, the Bills found a way to score one more point than the visiting Titans.
Chiefs 30, Jaguars 14: Kansas City showed itself to be more than The Patrick Mahomes Show.
Lions 31, Packers 23: While it's easy to blame this loss on kicker Mason Crosby, much of the blame also can be directed at the myriad of veteran playmakers counted on to crush the hopes of what had been a disappointing Lions team.
Browns 12, Ravens 9 (OT): The Browns are undefeated at home this season.
Bengals 27, Dolphins 17: The Bengals rallied from 17 down to improve to 4-1. Fans will get an idea of the Bengals' place in the AFC hierarchy with games against the Steelers next week and at Kansas City in Week 7.
Panthers 33, Giants 31: Graham Gano's 63-yard game-winning field goal delivered another crushing loss for the Giants.
Jets 34, Broncos 16: The Jets might have saved their season with a thorough beat down of the Broncos.
Patriots 38, Colts 24 (Thursday): Patriots version 18.0 might be the team's best in quite some time.

Eyes on the (fantasy) prize
Wide receivers top the list of fantasy waiver wire pickups for Week 6.
If you're looking for upside, Cardinals rookie Christian Kirk had only four targets Sunday, but made the most of them with three catches for 85 yards, including a 75-yard bomb.
After an unproductive start, double-check if Jets wideout Robby Anderson was dropped. Anderson has big-play potential, as he showed by catching a pair of long touchdown passes and accounting for 123 receiving yards.
Second-year Seahawks receiver David Moore also caught a pair of TD passes as Doug Baldwin was a non-factor.
The Packers and Rams both had to play without two of their starting receivers. Marquez Valdes-Scantling filled in and made an impact for Green Bay with seven catches for 68 yards and a score. Meanwhile, LA’s Josh Reynolds caught two of his three targets for 39 yards. Either one could be a worthwhile addition if injuries to any of the starters linger.
It's a similar situation in the Eagles backfield, where Wendell Smallwood rushed three times for 27 yards and caught three passes for 41 more yards and a touchdown.
