4th & Monday: Latest NFL mock draft asks if projected first-round QBs are starting to slide
Welcome to April, football fans. We're just 24 short days away from the NFL draft.
Get ready for a heightened level of draft speculation. Such as, what will the Cardinals do with the No. 1 pick and Josh Rosen? Will the Patriots look to the draft to find a replacement for the retired Rob Gronkowski? Will the Giants find Odell Beckham Jr.'s replacement in the draft? Will they address the quarterback position, too?
Speaking of quarterbacks, our latest mock draft asks if expected first-round QBs are starting to slide down the draft board. If so, what does that mean for Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock. Here's a photo gallery breaking down our projected first-round selections.
Looking back to last week, most of the attention was focused on what was going on at the NFL owners' meetings in Phoenix, but there was some big player news, too. Jordy Nelson retired. The Cowboys acquired a pass rusher. The Eagles added depth to their backfield.
Your Monday must-reads
- NFL owners trip over themselves despite wealth, power: NFL owners govern the richest sports league in America, but sometimes can't seem to get out of their own way.
- It was awkward having Robert Kraft at the owners' meetings: Though he attended the NFL owners meetings despite facing charges of soliciting prostitution, Kraft didn't discuss his case with fellows owners. Kraft, meanwhile, could be a victim of the Patriot Act.
- This could just be the most powerful woman in the NFL: Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson has had an interesting few months. But she hasn't let that deter her from making an impact.
- NFL makes major change to replay review system: Coaches helped owners come to their senses, as the league now will allow pass interference penalties, as well as missed calls, to be challenged and reviewed on instant replay.
- Browns' big expectations don't scare new coach: First-year coach Freddie Kitchens isn't trying to temper expectations in Cleveland, where the Browns look to be rising after landing Odell Beckham Jr.
- Nashville relocates trees for NFL draft: Responding to public pressure, Nashville Mayor David Briley said the city is not going to cut down 21 ornamental cherry trees to make space for an NFL draft stage.
- Patriots coordinator resigns before official hire: This was a strange development. Greg Schiano was expected to be the Patriots' top defensive assistant, but he announced Thursday he will not be joining the organization.
- English soccer star wants to kick in NFL: Tottenham Hotspur standout Harry Kane says he hopes to make a move to the NFL in 10-12 years by becoming a kicker in the league.
- Andrew Luck gets married: Luck and longtime girlfriend Nicole Pechanec got married in Prague over the weekend.
- Michael Irvin gets good news: Irvin shared on Instagram that results of his throat biopsy came back clean.
