Super Bowl week kicks off with fallout from one of biggest trades in NFL history

Welcome to Super Bowl hype week, sports fans.

But, before we dig into some Super Sunday storylines ...

Can you believe that bombshell trade that went down Saturday night?

The Lions and Rams swapped former No. 1 overall selections -- Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff -- and a bunch of draft picks in what will go down as one of the biggest trades in NFL history. In addition to sending Goff to Detroit, the Rams included two first-round picks (2022 and 2023) in the blockbuster deal. That means the Rams could go eight years between having first-round picks. The Rams' last first-round pick was Goff in 2016; the team's next likely first-rounder won't come until 2024. That's wild!

Of course, in a trade of this scale, there are numerous winners (Matthew Stafford) and losers (the Rams' long-term future). It also makes you wonder what Deshaun Watson -- who is seven years younger than Stafford -- can fetch in a potential trade.

It's now clear that the Rams weren't exactly happy with Goff's play -- which is a bit surprising given that with Goff the Rams were in the playoffs three of the last four years and reached a Super Bowl. Goff, meanwhile, is excited about the change of scenery.
