So long, 8-8 records and .500 seasons (unless a team manages to finish 8-8-1). Hello, 8-9 (or 9-8). As well as new standards for what is a tremendous season — 12-4 was a strong campaign and might yield a first-round playoff bye; 12-5 won't be quite as impressive.
