Could a splashy new NFL stadium in Denver be a priority for the Broncos' new ownership?
Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s $5.5 billion project on the West Coast, SoFi Stadium, could factor into the Denver Broncos' new ownership group's thinking once it formally takes charge, pending NFL ownership approval.
Walmart heir Rob Walton and company, who have agreed to buy the Broncos, have a close tie to Kroenke. Walton is married to Stan Kroenke's cousin, Ann Walton Kroenke.
And once that ownership approval becomes official, the first order of business could be addressing the franchise's stadium situation. Empower Field at Mile High was built in 2001 at a cost of around $450 million. Since then, about half of the league’s franchises have opened new stadiums and several others have done major renovation projects. While a major renovation could be an option, Empower Field at Mile High would not be as luxurious as the new stadiums in Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
